What can happen

Safety consequence

VEHICLES MAY NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY". IN AN IMPACT TEST FROM THE REAR, THE BUMPER SUPPORT STRUCTURE DEFORMED ENOUGH TO ALLOW CONTACT OF A SUPPORT BRACKET WITH THE FUEL TANK.

What fixes it

Official remedy

ALL RECALLED VEHICLES WILL RECEIVE FRAME REINFORCEMENTS PLUS TWO LOAD-BEARING RUB STRIPS AND PROTECTIVE IMPACT SHIELDING. ADDITIONALLY, A CORNER OF THE BUMPER BRACKET WILL BE REMOVED.
