What can happen

Safety consequence

IF THE SLACK ADJUSTER HOUSING WERE TO BREAK, THE WHEEL BRAKE TO WHICH THE SLACK ADJUSTER IS ATTACHED WOULD NO LONGER FUNCTION, REDUCING BRAKING CAPACITY AND, IN SOME CASES, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO ONE SIDE. REDUCED BRAKING PERFORMANCE AND/OR LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.

What fixes it

Official remedy

NAVISTAR WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SUBJECT SLACK ADJUSTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT APRIL 1, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NAVISTAR AT 1-800-448-7825.
